Junior midfielder 
Austin Davie struck for five goals to lead the Tigers to a 13-9 victory over West Regional rival Whittier College on Saturday night at Washburn Field.
 
CC improved to 11-4 on the season with its ninth-consecutive triumph over the Poets.
 
Colorado College is 6-0 in cup games since the traveling trophy was instituted in 2011.
 
"Our guys know all about the history between Colorado College and Whittier, even before the Locker-Stabler Cup," head coach 
Sean Woods said. "Playing this game at home in front of our alumni gives our guys a lot of extra incentive."
 
Senior midfielder 
Eric Neumeyer matched his career high of three goals set during last week's 13-8 victory over the Poets, while sophomore attackman 
Robbie Stern also scored three times.
 
Freshmen 
Tyler Borko and 
Drew Wiseman each had two assists.
 
Junior midfielder Nick Hernandez gave Whittier its only lead 55 seconds into the game after taking a feed from senior midfielder Aaron Self, but the Tigers answered with tallies from Stern, Neumeyer and freshman midfielder 
Tom Haller to take a 3-1 lead at the end of the first quarter.
 
Davie's first tally 1:36 into the second quarter made the score 4-1, and after a goal by Whittier senior Matt Symes, Davie and Neumeyer combined for the final four goals of the half to make the score 8-2 after 30 minutes.
 
"Austin's been doing that all year long," Woods said. "Our guys know that if they do their job when he has the ball, something great will happen. Austin scores clutch goals and he was clutch in the second quarter tonight."
 
Borko gave CC a 12-4 lead with 6:20 remaining in the third quarter, but the Poets battled back to within 13-8 when senior attackman Maxwell Jones scored with 9:01 to play.
 
"We expected Whittier to make a run," Woods said. "They are well coached and a classy bunch of guys. We have a lot of respect for that team."
 
Neither team scored until senior attacker Jonathan Kassity scored a man-up goal for the Poets with only 41 seconds remaining.
 
Chase Murphy made 12 saves, the 31st time in his career he stopped double-digit shots. Colorado College's senior goaltender improved to 6-0 all-time against the Poets.
 
The Tigers finished with a 46-33 advantage in total shots, while Whittier held a 31-28 edge in ground balls.
 
Symes led the Poets with four goals, while Jones added three more. Hernandez had a game-high three assists.
 
Sophomore goaltender Alex Cramer made five saves for the Poets, who dropped to 8-5. Freshman Dakota Turgeon stopped a pair of shots during the final 28:57.
 
Colorado College will learn its postseason destination when the brackets for the 2016 NCAA Division III Men's Lacrosse Championship are announced on Sunday, May 8.
