The Colorado College men's lacrosse team achieved another milestone for the program when it was selected to host a first-round game of the NCAA Division III Championship for the first time.
While playing at home in the tournament will be a new experience, facing off with their first-round opponent certainly is not.
The Tigers will face West Region rival Whittier College for the third time in less than four weeks on Wednesday, May 11, at either 4 or 7 p.m. MT.
CC, which is 11-4 overall and riding a five-game winning streak, is making its fourth consecutive appearance in the NCAA Tournament and fifth overall.
The Poets, who also earned a Pool B bid, are 8-5.
Colorado College defeated Whittier, 13-8, on May 23.
One week later, the Tigers extended their winning streak in the series to nine games when they defeated the Poets, 13-9, in the annual battle for the Locker-Stabler Cup.
CC is led by senior goaltender
Chase Murphy and junior attackman
Austin Davie.
Murphy, a two-time honorable-mention All-American, ranks 14th in Division III with a .602 saves percentage.
He already has recorded a personal-best 174 saves this season.
Murphy stopped 12 shots in the regular-season finale against Whittier, marking the 31st time in his career he made double-digit saves.
Davie leads the Tigers with single-season highs of 48 goals and 58 points.
He ranks 16th nationally averaging 3.2 goals per game.
