Davie Hits Milestone as Tigers Dismantle MIT

Box Score Senior attackman Austin Davie struck six times, including career goal No. 100 midway through the fourth quarter, as Colorado College overcame an early two-point deficit to defeat the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, 16-12, on an otherwise blustery Tuesday afternoon at Washburn Field.

Davie, who also set up three scores en route to a personal record nine points, matched his single-game high of six goals for the third time.

Junior attackman Robbie Stern scored three times and dished out three assists as the Tigers improved to 6-3 overall.

Stern struck for a pair of markers and Davie recorded a goal and three assists during a dominant second period when the Tigers launched 18 of their 51 shots and outscored MIT, 6-1.

Back-to-back tallies by junior attacker Graham Davis gave the Engineers a 3-1 lead midway through the first quarter, but CC pulled to within one when sophomore midfielder Tyler Borko scored with 74
seconds to go in the period.

Sophomore midfielder Tom Haller tied the game less than a minute into the second quarter, then sophomore midfielder Chris Brower gave Colorado College its first lead at the 11:28 mark.

After Davis knotted the score with the third of his five goals, the Tigers scored four in a row and took an 8-4 lead into the break after Stern struck for a man-up tally with a little more than five minutes to play in the first half.

Junior midfielder Mitch Turley and freshman attackman Aidan Westley gave MIT some much-needed momentum by notching goals during the first two minutes of the second half, but Haller scored from his knees off a spin move on the left wing to extend CC's lead to 9-6.

After Turley got one back for the Engineers, Davie struck for the next two goals, including a man-down tally with 11 seconds to go in the third quarter that gave the Tigers an 11-7 advantage.

Senior attackman Harris Stolzenberg set up markers from senior attackman Michael Traub and Westley to cut MIT's deficit in half, however Davie scored three goals and Stern found the net once during a four-goal outburst that gave Colorado College its first six-point lead.

The teams traded goals midway through the fourth quarter before Davis struck twice for the Engineers during the final 6:28 to close out the scoring.

CC won 17 of 30 faceoffs and had a 20-18 edge in ground balls.

Freshman Ben Schwaeber won 11 of 20 faceoffs, while sophomore Parker Woo went 6-for-9 and caused three turnovers.

First-year Andrew Harwood recorded 11 saves for the Tigers, his sixth double-digit performance of the season, before giving way to classmate Skylar Whinery for the final four minutes.

Sophomore goaltender Alexander Lynch stopped 16 shots for the Engineers, who slipped to 4-2.

Colorado College continues its seven-game home stand on Thursday when Williams College visits Washburn Field at 3 p.m.
