Box Score The Cabrini University men's lacrosse team lived up to its No. 9 ranking and cruised to a 22-10 victory over Colorado College in the second round of the 2017 NCAA Division III Men's Lacrosse Championship on Wednesday afternoon at Edith Robb Dixon Field.
The Cavaliers, who improved to 16-3, advanced to the third round and will face Franklin & Marshall College on Saturday.
Cabrini, which entered the game ranked eighth nationally averaging 16.28 goals per game, struck 10 times in the second quarter to take control of the contest.
Freshman attacker
Coby Petau led the Tigers with a season-high four goals. Junior attacker
Robbie Stern struck twice for the black and gold.
Sophomore midfielder
Tyler Borko recorded a goal and two assists, while senior attacker
Austin Davie scored once and set up another.
The Cavaliers won 26 of 35 faceoffs built a 41-29 edge in ground balls. That resulted in a 51-37 advantage in total shots
Freshman goaltender
Andrew Harwood made 10 saves before giving way to classmate
Skylar Whinery for the final 15 minutes.
Sophomore Timmy Brooks struck for three of his game-high five goals during the first quarter when the Cavaliers led 3-2. CC used tallies by senior midfielder
Brad Hale and Petau to stay within striking distance.
Cabrini scored the first six markers of the second quarter, and after Borko struck for the Tigers to make the score 9-3, the Cavs answered with three more, including a pair in the final 12 seconds before halftime.
Any hopes of a historic comeback were dashed when Cabrini opened the second half with a 5-2 surge to extend its lead to 18-5.
Evan Downey finished with a game-high seven points on four goals and an assist.
Colorado College finished the season with a 10-6 record.
