Box Score Fourth-ranked Trinity University scored early in the first half and added an insurance goal in the 65th minute as the hosts defeated Colorado College, 2-0, on Sunday afternoon in the first of two regular-season meetings.
Despite trailing after 45 minutes, CC was the dominant side during the first half. The visitors launched 14 of their 19 shots, but were unable to get one past TU sophomore goalkeeper Blake Lieberman.
Freshman midfielder Jacob Hallenberger scored the only goal Trinity needed in the 15th minute off a pass from senior defender Daylon Harris.
Harris also set up junior midfielder Christian Sakshaug's goal in the 66th minute to secure the victory.
Trinity found its legs in the second half and outshot Colorado College, 10-5, during the final 45 minutes.
Senior goalkeeper
Theo Hooker made five saves for CC, which slipped to 3-2-1 overall and 1-1-1 in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference.
Lieberman stopped four shots for TU, which improved to 6-1-0 overall and 2-1-0 in league play.
Colorado College will get another shot at Trinity on Sunday, Oct. 8, at Stewart Field.
CC returns to action on Tuesday, Sept. 19, when it makes the short drive to Denver to face Johnson & Wales University at Aurora Sports Park. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m.
