The Colorado College men's track and field team collected four individual titles on Sunday at the 2021 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships in Seguin, Texas.
Â
After winning two of the three races on Saturday, the Tigers secured six titles in the 10 individual races during the two-day meet.
Â
CC finished in third place with 106 points, the most for the Tigers since joining the SCAC in 2007. Trinity University claimed the team title with 246 points, followed by Texas Lutheran with 207.
Â
Junior
Josh Fry led the Tigers on Sunday, capturing both the 800- and 1500-meter races. His winning time of 1:54.48 in the 800 is the third-fastest in program history, and he won the 1500 in 3:58.57. Fry is just the fourth runner to win both races in the same year since Colorado College joined the SCAC in 2007, and the first since Trinity's Michael Erickson in 2017.
Â
Senior
Michael Gorman set a school record by winning the 400-meter dash. His time of 48.82 seconds broke the previous mark of 49.25, set by Mike Reed in 2002.
Â
Freshman
James Settles collected his second SCAC title in as many days by winning the 5K race in 15:51.68, defeating second-place Ben Whittmore of Trinity by 1.09 seconds. Settles is the third CC runner, joining
Tony Calderon in 2019 and Julian Boggs in 2007, and fifth overall, to win both the 5K and 10K races in the same season since '07.
Â
"All of the coaches are so proud of the men's team effort at the championship," interim head coach
Alex Nichols said. "We have never seen anything like the sweep of the running events from 400 meters to 10k. The excitement of those conference titles was electric, and it pushed everyone to perform at their best."
Â
Junior
Sam Rodriguez finished second to Fry in the 800 and 1500 races, then joined Fry, Gorman and
Lucas Cowen on the third-place 4x400-meter relay team for CC's all-conference honors.
Â
Freshman
Briton Boiardi just missed the podium by placing fourth in the high jump with a leap of 6"1.5", while sophomore
Leighton Graham finished fifth in the discus with a toss of 133'7".
