The 1995-96 Colorado College hockey team and former Tiger great Eddie Mio have been selected for induction into the Colorado Springs Sports Hall of Fame.
Â
The 2023 induction ceremony, an event of the Colorado Springs Sports Corporation, will take place on Tuesday, Oct. 24, at the Broadmoor World Arena.
Â
The '95-96 hockey team set the school record for most wins in a season, a record that still stands, and advanced to the NCAA Division I national championship game before falling to Michigan, 3-2, in overtime. The Tigers posted a 33-5-4 overall record and a 26-2-4 mark in league play, producing their third consecutive Western Collegiate Hockey Association regular-season title under head coach Don Lucia.
Â
Led by team captain Eric Rud and All-Americans Peter Geronazzo and Ryan Bach, the Tigers appeared in the national title game for the third time in program history and first since winning the championship in 1957.
Â
Mio, meanwhile, played goalie for the Tigers from 1972-76 and holds the school record for most saves in a single game with 72 against Wisconsin on Nov. 17, 1972. He is No. 4 on the school's career list with 3,047 saves and was named All-American and All-WCHA his junior and senior years.Â
Â
Following his tenure at Colorado College, Mio played 214 games in the National Hockey League with the Edmonton Oilers, New York Rangers and Detroit Red Wings. Â
Â
The Class of 2023 also includes Olympic Speedskating Gold Medalist Apolo Ohno; former Mountain West Conference commissioner Craig Thompson; UCCS softball athlete Crystal Krebs; Coronado High School four-sport star Jessika Stratton Caldwell; Mitchell High School three-sport athlete Terry Miller and the 1980 Palmer High School Girls Swim Team.
