Colorado College sophomores
Noah Laba and
Kaidan Mbereko are among 84 student-athletes nominated for the 2024 Hobey Baker Award, according to the Hobey Baker Memorial Award Foundation.
The Hobey Baker Award is presented annually to the collegiate hockey player who best demonstrates strength of character both on and off the ice, contributes to the integrity of his team and displays outstanding skills in all phases of the game. Consideration is given for scholastic achievement and sportsmanship.
Colorado College has had two winners since the first Hobey Baker was awarded in 1981, Peter Sejna (2003) and Marty Sertich (2005).
Laba, a forward from Northville, Mich., leads the Tigers so far this season with 22 points (14g,8a). He is tied for the national lead with six game-winning goals, including four in overtime this season. He notched the OT GWG in each contest at Western Michigan last weekend. He is also tied for fifth in the nation with two shorthanded goals. Laba currently has a career-high five-game goal streak and was named the NCHC Player of the Month for January.
Mbereko, a goaltender from Aspen, Colo., is tied for the Lead in the NCHC with 15 victories and currently owns a five-game winning streak. He has allowed just 10 goals in the last six games. Mbereko is the reigning two-time NCHC Goaltender of the Month, winning the award in December and January.
