Colorado College opens its home schedule this weekend as the Tigers host Adams State on Saturday afternoon at Stewart Field.
Last Time Out
CC is coming off a strong bounce-back performance, defeating Aurora 17-11 on Feb. 15. The Tigers jumped out quickly, scoring seven of the first nine goals and carrying a 12-5 lead into halftime. Junior Aidan Niklaus and junior Gavin Pope each scored four goals to pace the offense, while junior Matt Hudson added three goals and an assist. Senior Robert Spence anchored the defensive effort in goal with 12 saves as CC finished with advantages in both shots and ground balls.
Niklaus earned national recognition earlier this week after being named to the USILA Division III National Team of the Week. The junior attackman totaled eight goals and three assists across two games, including career-high four-goal performances in each contest.
At the Helm
CC enters the weekend averaging 13.5 goals per game while holding opponents to 11.0 goals per contest. Niklaus leads the Tigers offensively with 11 points on eight goals and three assists through the first two games of the season.
Pope and Hudson have each recorded six points, while sophomore Liam Goodwin has added four points. In the faceoff circle, freshman Bryce Ferguson has won 22 of 37 attempts, helping CC hold a 58.9 percent team faceoff winning percentage. Defensively, the Tigers have collected 85 ground balls and forced 27 caused turnovers across two contests, while Spence owns a .587 save percentage in goal.
Scouting the Opposition
Adams State enters the contest with an 0-2 record and is averaging 4.5 goals per game while allowing 20.0 goals per contest. Jacob Parsons leads the Grizzlies offensively with four goals through two games, while Tre Williams has added three points on two goals and an assist. Adams State has struggled in possession battles early in the season, winning just 24 percent of faceoffs and averaging 24 shots per game.
