A spirited comeback by Colorado College came up a little short as the Tigers dropped a 9-7 decision to Washington and Lee University in CC's season opener on Saturday in Lexington, Va.
The Generals scored six consecutive goals during a span of 15-minutes, turning a 2-1 deficit into a 7-2 lead with 8:37 to play in the second period. The Tigers outscored W&L 5-2 during the remainder of the game, but were never able to get closer than two goals.
Moses Taylor's goal with 3:44 remaining in the game made the score 8-6, and after Spence Daw gave the Generals an insurance score, Charley Perkins struck a second time for what proved to be the final goal of the game with 1:48 to play.
Taylor scored three times in his first collegiate game to pace the Colorado College attack. Perkins had a pair of scores, while both Carson Christman and Brendan Gangl found the net once.
Harry St. John led WLU with two goals and an assist, while Will Keigler and Tim Skeen each had a pair of tallies.
Scott MacArthur made 11 saves for the Tigers, while Connor Locke had seven for the Generals.
Washington and Lee had a 35-22 advantage in shots, 16 of which were launched in the opening period.
The Generals improved to 2-0 and avenged a 15-11 loss to Colorado College in the 2008 season opener.
The Tigers will travel to No. 10 Lynchburg College on Sunday. The game time has been moved up to 11:30 a.m.
