Colorado College tuned up for its back-to-back games against defending national champions with an 11-3 victory over the University of New England on Wednesday evening at Washburn Field.
Junior attacker Chris Love led the Tigers with five points and tied his career high with four assists, while freshman attacker Carson Christman notched four goals for the second game in a row.
The Tigers broke the game open with five consecutive scores, the last two of the second period and three more to open the second half. By the time Mike Nawrocki scored UNE's final goal with 2:39 remaining in the third period, CC was complete command.
Moses Taylor and Toby Cohen gave the Tigers a two-goal lead 10:34 into the game, but Michael Woods cut the Nor'easters' deficit in half with a wicked shot from 15 yards out with 4:21 to play in the opening period.
Charley Perkins scored from the right side of the perimeter with 55 seconds to left in the period, and then Christman gave CC a 4-1 lead when he struck for the first time 3:10 into the second period.
Luke Difiore scored a man-up goal 1:02 later after taking a feed from Dylan Thomas, but that was as close as UNE would get the rest of the game.
The highlight of the game occurred midway through the fourth period when Kyle Bishop scooped up a ground ball in CC's defensive zone and raced the length of the field to join Taylors in a series of pin-point passes that resulted in Christman's third goal.
CC's trio of sophomore goaltenders combined for 12 saves. Max Pluss had to stop just one shot while earning his first victory of the season. Brendan Haas made seven saves, while Scott MacArthur added four. Nate Porter stopped 12 shots for the Nor'easters.
Seniors Chris Colligan and Buddy Ferreira led the defensive effort, helping CC hold back-to-back opponents to under five goals apiece for the first time since 2005. Colligan had a game-high seven ground balls, a caused turnover and scored a goal, while Ferreira had five ground balls and forced three turnovers.
Taylor had two goals and two assists for Colorado College, while Perkins struck for a pair of scores.
Thomas set up two of the three UNH goals.
The Tigers squared their record at 2-2 heading into Saturday's game against the New York Institute of Technology, the 2008 Division II national champs. The Nor'easters dropped to 0-1.
