Seventy-five Colorado College student-athletes earned a spot on the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Academic Honor Roll for excellence in the classroom during the 2009 Spring Semester.
To earn the distinction, a student-athlete had to maintain a minimum grade-point average of 3.25 for the semester and be a member of a varsity athletic team in a sport sponsored by the conference.
The women's tennis team had the most players recognized with 13 and the highest percentage of its roster achieving the honor (.813). The women's track and field team saw nine of its 12 athletes earn the distinction.
The men's tennis team had 12 of its 21 (.571) members recognized, while the men's swimming and diving team was just behind with 10 honorees out of a possible 18 (.556).
Student-athletes participating in men's and women's lacrosse teams and water polo were not eligible for the award since the sports are not sanctioned by the SCAC. Men's lacrosse will become a conference sport in 2011.
Conference wide, a record 1,107 student-athletes earned a spot on the Spring Academic Honor Roll. Since its inception in the fall of 1997, more than 14,700 student-athletes have been recognized for their accomplishments in the classroom.
