Tigers slip into tie for first in SCAC

Colorado College dropped a four-set decision to Trinity University on Sunday and slipped into a tie for first place with Southwestern University at the top of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference standings.

The No. 7-ranked Tigers won three of four matches to finish the weekend with an 18-5 overall record and an 11-1 mark in conference play.

CC dominated the first set, but Trinity came from behind to claim the 16-25, 25-21, 25-20, 25-22 victory.

“We played a great first set,” head coach Rick Swan said. “but then we couldn't finish and that gave them confidence.”

Emily Perkins had a team-high 11 kills and four blocks.

Colorado College began the day with a 25-21, 25-19, 27-25 victory over host Millsaps.

Erika Pirotte led the Tigers' attack with 15 kills and Sarah Schmoker added 14. Laura Goldsmith had 20 digs, while Pirotte had a hand in three blocked shots.

Colorado College plays its final four SCAC matches next weekend at Austin College. The Tigers face DePauw University and Sewanee on Friday, and then Oglethorpe University and host Austin on Saturday.
