Randolph-Macon College knocked Colorado College out of the NCAA Division III Volleyball Tournament by a 25-18, 25-23, 25-21 count in a second-round match on Saturday afternoon at Christopher Newport University.
The Yellow Jackets blocked eight shots and held the Tigers to a .065 hitting percentage, their lowest of the season against a Division III opponent.
Senior middle blocker Emily Perkins led the Tigers with eight kills, while junior opposite hitter Meredith Ballard added seven.
Junior setter Amy Schornack had 26 assists to finish the season with a single-season record 1,259. Sophomore libero Laura Goldsmith led the Tigers with 16 digs to complete the season with a school record 622.
Freshman middle blocker Devin Wilkinson and Ballard each had four blocks for CC.
Randolph-Macon showed it was not intimidated by the region's top seed when it went on a 9-3 run early in the first set to take a 12-6 lead it would not surrender.
The Tigers appeared to be on the verge of tying the match when they built a 17-12 advantage in the second set, but RMC scored 10 of the next 15 points to tie the set at 22-22. After the teams traded points, the Yellow Jackets got kills from Raena Winton and Mallory Carter to go up two sets to none.
CC had an opportunity to extend the match, but with the score tied 19-19, Randolph-Macon scored four consecutive points on a kill and three Tiger errors and went on to close out the match and become the first Division III opponent to sweep the Tigers this season.
Jessica Sears had a match-high 13 kills and 15 digs to pace the Yellow Jackets.
Colorado College finished with a 30-7 record.
