Carson Christman scored four goals and set up two others to lead Colorado College to a 13-5 victory over Dominican University of California on Sunday afternoon.
Hunter Sprole struck for three scores and added a pair of assists as the Tigers completed their season-opening visit to California with a 2-0 record against Division II opponents.
“It's a good start to the season,” head coach Guy Van Arsdale said. “We feel good about winning our first two games on the road, but we've got a long way to go.”
Jim Little gave the Penguins a 1-0 lead when he scored the first of his two goals 2:05 into the game. Bart Cerf tied the contest with 8:32 remaining in the first period and Sprole put CC ahead for good with a man-up goal 56 seconds later.
The Tigers added four more goals before Dominican got a man-up goal from Cam Evangelho with 4:50 to play in the second period.
Christman added his second goal 43 seconds later, the first of three times CC would answer a Penguin tally in less than a minute.
Kyle Mitchell scored with four seconds remaining in the first half, but the Tigers got goals from Brendan Gangl, Christman and Steve Rijo in the third period to build a 10-4 lead with 15 minutes to play.
Colorado College put the game away by netting three of the four goals scored in the fourth period.
The Tigers had a 34-14 advantage in shots on goal, but Sam Darrow made 13 saves to keep Dominican in the game.
CC won 16 of 21 face-offs and had a 39-30 edge in ground balls.
Kyle Bishop led the defensive effort with seven ground balls and was 13-for-17 in face-offs. Chris Love added six ground balls.
Jackson Nye, who made five saves, improved to 2-0 between the pipes for the Tigers.
Colorado College will play its first home game of the season next Saturday when the Tigers play host to the Colorado State University club team at Washburn Field.
