Tigers climb in national rankings

Colorado College is reaping the benefits of a successful season by making a climb in the national rankings and strengthening its case to earn an at-large berth in the upcoming NCAA Tournament.

After winning three of four contests during a four-game tour of Ohio over the last two weekends, the Tigers jumped into the list of teams receiving votes in the latest United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association Division III Coaches Poll and climbed to No. 33 in LaxPower.com's computer rankings.

CC improved to 8-2 overall and 6-1 on the road.

The Tigers posted victories at Kenyon College (12-9) and the College of Wooster (12-4) the weekend of April 10-11, then lost at No. 11 Denison University (17-9) last Friday before defeating Wittenberg University (9-5) on Sunday. Ironically, Colorado College prevailed against the only two teams (Wooster and Wittenberg) that have beaten Denison this season.

In the national statistics, CC ranks No. 14 in scoring defense allowing 6.5 goals per game, No. 19 in scoring offense at 13.1 goals per game and No. 19 in both assists and points at 19.1 per game.

Individually, sophomore attackers Carson Christman (4.0) and Moses Taylor (3.8) rank No. 35 and 51, respectively, in points per game. Taylor (2.7) and Christman (2.3) are No. 37 and No. 82, respectively, in goals per game, and Christman is No. 49 averaging 1.7 assists per game.

Defensively, junior goaltender Brendan Haas ranks No. 22 in goals-against average (7.07) and No. 34 in saves percentage (0.583), while senior midfielder Kyle Bishop is No. 18 in faceoff percentage at .630.

Colorado College is idle until May 1-2 when the Tigers try to clinch the first-ever Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference title with games against Sewanee and Hendrix College, respectively, in Conway, Ark.
