Late goal lifts Rams past CC

Kristen Kasney scored with 2:16 remaining in the game to give the Colorado State University club team a 10-9 victory over Colorado College in an exhibition game on Saturday afternoon at CC's Washburn Field.

The Rams caught a break on the ensuing draw control when the Tigers Ginna Oates was called for a check to the head while trying to scoop up a ground ball and CSU successfully ran out the clock with the one-player advantage.

Colorado State built a 5-2 lead when Brenna Mefford scored 40 seconds into the second half, but Colorado College answered with four consecutive goals to grab a 6-5 lead with 16:19 remaining in the game.

The Rams scored twice in a span of 2:43 to take a 7-6 advantage with 12:48 to play and the teams traded goals the rest of the way.

Colorado College tied the game with goals by Maggie Defanti, Gioia Garden and Grace Maloney during the final 13 minutes, but turnovers prevented the Tigers from taking the lead.

Abby Fink made 12 saves while going the distance between the pipes for the Tigers. CSU's Katie Davis earned the victory in goal despite stopping only one of eight shots during the second half. Annette Greenberg made five saves during the first half.

Maloney paced the CC attack with three goals, while Garden scored twice and added an assist. Anna Crosby added a pair of scores on three free-position shots.

Kasney and Jacki Cella had three goals apiece for the Rams.

Colorado College closes out the 2010 season next Saturday against Sewanee: The University of the South at Stewart Field.
