Tigers net three of SCAC’s top honors

Colorado College earned three of the top honors from the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference and had a total of eight players named to the first-ever all-SCAC men's lacrosse team.

Sophomore attackman Carson Christman was tabbed Offensive Player of the Year, junior defender Zach Hoisington was selected Defensive Player of the Year, and first-year head coach Guy Van Arsdale was voted Coach of the Year.

Joining Christman and Hoisington as first-team selections were sophomore attacker Moses Taylor, sophomore midfielder James Mauk and senior faceoff specialist Kyle Bishop.

Senior midfielder Chris Love, senior long-pole middie Michael McGeary and junior defender Chris Kolodey were named to the second team.

Christman, a product of Simsbury, Conn., finished the season with career highs of 32 goals, 21 assists and 53 points. He led the SCAC in goals per game (2.67), assists per game (1.75), points per game (4.42) and game winning goals (3).

In the latest NCAA statistics, Christman is ranked No. 18 in points per game, No. 31 in goals per game and tied for No. 42 in assists per game.

Hoisington was the anchor of the Tiger defense which ranks No. 4 in scoring defense, allowing just 6.17 goals per game, and No. 65 in man-down defense, giving up just 0.76 scores per contest.

Usually tasked with shutting down the opponent's top offensive threat, Hoisington was among the team's leaders with 28 ground balls and 12 caused turnovers.

Van Arsdale led Colorado College to a 10-2 overall record and the inaugural SCAC championship with a 4-0 mark in league play. The Tigers also defeated both of the state's top club programs, Colorado State University and the University of Colorado, victories that are not reflected in CC's official NCAA record.

Taylor posted career highs with 32 goals, 21 assists and 53 points. In addition to being ranked in the SCAC's top two in each category, he is No. 23 in the nation in points, No. 41 in goals and tied with Christman at No. 42 in points per game.

Mauk was fourth on the team with 17 goals, 9 assists and 26 points, finishing ninth in the conference standings in each statistic.

In addition to leading the conference with a .671 faceoff percentage and average of 4.92 ground balls per game, Bishop finished the season ranked No. 9 in Division III in faceoff percentage (.671) and No. 85 in ground balls (59).

Love, one of the team's top two-way midfielders, finished the year with 10 goals and three assists, and was fifth on the team with 32 ground balls. McGeary tied for second with 10 caused turnovers and was fourth with 31 ground balls, while Kolodey was second with 14 caused turnovers and added 24 ground balls.
