SCAC honors Bishop, Christman

Kyle Bishop and Carson Christman were named Players of the Week by the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference for their performances during victories over Sewanee and Hendrix College last weekend, giving Colorado College a sweep of the weekly honors for the fourth time this season.

Christman earned Offensive POW honors for the second time in 2010 after scoring nine goals and assisting on four others as the Tigers locked up the SCAC's inaugural men's lacrosse title.

The sophomore attackman had three goals and three assists during the 20-7 victory over Sewanee, and came back the following day with a career-high six goals in a 20-2 blitz of the Warriors.

Christman scored on nine of 17 shots during the two games and now has 11 games with two or more tallies and at least four points. He was credited with his third game-winning goal of the season and the fifth of his career during Sunday's triumph at Hendrix.

Moses Taylor (March 22) and Hunter Sprole (April 5) also have received the offensive award.

Bishop earned Defensive POW accolades for the third time after leading the team with nine ground balls in each game. He also won 12 of 18 faceoffs against Sewanee. Faceoff statistics were not provided by Hendrix.

The victory over the Warriors marked the ninth time in 12 contests that CC's defense held an opponent to seven or fewer goals in a game and the seventh time an opponent scored five or fewer goals. The Tigers lowered their season goals-against average to 8.80 goals per game.

Bishop joins teammates Brendan Haas (March 22), Zach Pierce (March 29), Zach Hoisington (April 12) and Chris Kolodey (April 19) as recipients of the league's weekly defensive honor.

Colorado College finished the regular season with a 10-2 record, including a 7-1 mark away from home. The Tigers continue to practice in the hope of receiving the program's first-ever berth in the NCAA Division III Tournament. The bracket will be announced on Sunday, May 9.
