CC tops Centre and DePauw in SCAC action

Senior middle blocker Emily Perkins moved up on a pair of career lists as Colorado College posted a pair of neutral-site victories in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference action on Saturday at Sewanee: The University of the South.

The seventh-ranked Tigers defeated Centre College 25-17, 25-15, 25-10 in their first match, and then came from behind to defeat DePauw University 24-26, 25-19, 27-29, 25-19, 15-10 in the final match of the day to improve to 13-2 overall and 6-0.

Perkins recorded her sixth double-double of the season with 16 kills and 19 against DePauw, and moved into second place with 1,463 career kills and third place with 1,375 career digs. She surpassed four-time All-American Cathy Costello's (1986-89) mark of 1,457 kills and All-American Elissa Breitbard's total of 1,368 digs.

Senior middle blocker Erika Pirotte also put down 16 kills against DePauw, while junior right-side hitter Meredith Ballard had a double-double with 15 kills and 10 digs.

Junior setter Amy Schornack tied her career high with 57 assists and moved past Amy Smith (1984-87) for third place on CC's career list with her third of the match and finished the day with 2,276.

Sophomore libero Laura Goldsmith had 28 digs, the seventh time this season she has scooped up 20 or more, and became the 18th player in the program's history to eclipse the 700-dig plateau.

Colorado College improved to 3-1 in five-set matches this season.

Ballard had 11 kills and a pair of aces to fuel the CC offense against the Colonels. Sophomore libero Laura Goldsmith recorded 16 digs, while junior middle blocker Haley Hamilton had a hand in five blocked shots to pace the defense.

Colorado College faces host Sewanee on Sunday morning and then the top spot in the standings will be on the line when the Tigers play No. 17 Southwestern University (6-0 SCAC) at 1 p.m.
