Goldsmith reaches milestone in sweep of Trinity

Colorado College's Laura Goldsmith became the first-ever Tiger volleyball player to reach 2,000 career digs during Sunday's 3-0 (25-16, 25-20, 25-18) sweep of Trinity University in Sherman, Texas.
 
Goldsmith's ninth dig of the match earned the senior her 2,000th career dig. The defensive specialist holds the all-time record with 2,013 career digs.  
 
Freshman Emily Phillips led the Tigers' offense with 16 kills, while Goldsmith and Courtney Birkett added 10 and nine kills, respectively.
 
Senior Kate Squires led CC's attack dishing out 37 assists. Goldsmith led the team behind the line with three service aces.
 
Defensively, the Tigers were led by freshman Sophie Merrifield with 23 digs and Goldsmith with 22 digs. Phillips and Birkett each contributed with 16 digs each.
 
CC improved to 15-6 on the season and 5-1 in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play. Trinity fell to 9-12 on the season and 4-2 in conference play.
 
Colorado College returns home as it hosts Claremont Colleges, Baker University and Whittier College on Oct. 12-13. The Tigers play Claremont at 3 p.m. and finish the day honoring their seniors against Baker at 5 p.m. on Saturday.
