Jacoby powers Tigers past Millsaps

Senior attacker Leslie Jacoby tied her career high of six points with four goals and a pair of assists as Colorado College cruised to a 14-1 victory over Millsaps College in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference opener for both teams on Saturday afternoon.

Jacoby and Anna Crosby scored 13 seconds during the opening minute of the game and the Tigers never looked back.

After CC tacked on four more points, Haliegh Williams put the Majors on the board a little more than halfway through the first frame after taking a feed from Mary Beasley. That, however, was the only marker the Colorado College defense would allow.

The Tigers got that goal back 69 seconds later when sophomore attacker Madeline Scherer found the net for the first time this season and CC added four more tallies to build an 11-1 lead after 30 minutes.

Madelyn Walker made five of her eight saves in the second half and kept Colorado College from adding to its lead until Jacoby struck for her final goal with 8:24 remaining in the contest.

Junior attacker Ellie Cole recorded three markers and an assist for the Tigers. Scherer posted the fourth multiple-goal game of her career, while senior midfielder Kelsey Morell added a score and two assists.

Colorado College finished with 22 total shots, compared to nine for Millsaps.

Junior goaltender Amy Fink stopped five of the six shots she faced.

Senior midfielder Grace Maloney and freshman attacker Madeline Pitkin paced CC with five ground balls apiece, while freshmen midfielders Dylan Voneiff and Leigh Nicholl each had a pair of draw controls.

Kelsey Ingraham grabbed five ground balls and caused a pair of turnovers for the Majors.

The Tigers improved to 2-0 overall and 1-0 in the SCAC. Millsaps is 0-1 overall and in conference play.

Colorado College is idle until March 10 when it travels to Texas for a league game at the University of Dallas.
