Colorado College bounced back on Saturday to pick up a pair of conference victories after opening league play with a tough loss to Trinity University Friday evening in Georgetown, Texas.
The Tigers opened the day with a 3-0 sweep (25-21, 25-17, 25-10) over Centenary College, which is competing in its first season as a member of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference, to earn their first SCAC win of 2012.
They carried that momentum into Saturday's nightcap to record a 3-1 triumph (25-18, 25-16, 25-27, 25-16) over Austin College.
Sophomore
Kristen Liberty led the attack for the Tigers on Saturday picking up double-digit kills against the Ladies and the Kangaroos with 10 and 12 kills, respectively.
Devon Lucero continues to orchestrate CC's offense dishing out a combined 71 assists against Centenary and Ausitn.
The freshman setter also served a career-high seven aces against the Ladies to tie for fifth all-time for most aces in a single match.
CC, which improved to 10-4 overall and 2-1 in conference play, remains on the road this week as it travels to Oregon to play four non-SCAC matches from Sept. 27 through Sept. 30. The northwestern swing begins at George Fox University at 7 p.m. on Thursday.
Colorado College got off to a great start on Friday, prevailing in the first two sets (25-15, 25-22), but then allowed its namesake Tigers to rally (25-12, 25-20, 16-14) for a 3-2 upset victory despite 14 kills apiece by senior
Laura Goldsmith and freshman
Emily Phillips. Fortunately, CC never gave Centenary or Austin that kind of opportunity.
