Early lead disappears as CC falls at Redlands

Box Score Senior midfielder Kate Krieger helped Colorado College jump out to an early 4-1 lead, but the University of Redlands came from behind and ran up an 18-9 victory under the lights at Farquhar Field on Friday night.

Krieger struck for two of the game's first three goals and the Tigers took a 4-1 lead when junior midfielder Elise Burchard found the net 9:25 into the contest. However, after the teams traded markers, Redlands went on a 7-1 run to build a 9-6 advantage.

Tallies by junior attacker Iris Rayburn and Burchard pulled CC to within a point with 2:31 remaining in the half, but the Bulldogs answered with a pair of their own to build an 11-8 lead after 30 minutes.

Redlands added the first three goals of the second half to extend the margin to six goals with just 3:26 expired. Then the defenses took over and neither team found the net until senior midfielder Anna Crosby scored on a free-position shot with just 8:04 remaining in the contest to make the count 14-9.

Any hopes for a comeback evaporated when the Bulldogs scored twice in a span of 22 seconds just after the clock struck five minutes to play, and the hosts tacked on a pair of goals during the last minute of play to close out the scoring.

Senior Abby Fink made 10 saves for the Tigers.

Senior attacker Ellie Cole, Krieger and Burchard each scored twice for CC.

Junior midfielders KK McCaslin and Jacky Craycraft paced the Bulldogs with five points apiece. McCaslin scored five goals, while Craycraft struck four times and added an assist.

Four-year starter Ana Martinez made eight saves for Redlands, which improved to 8-4.

Colorado College (2-7) visits Occidental College on Sunday at 1 p.m. to wrap up its brief two-game trip to Southern California.
