Box Score Colorado College opened its second weekend of conference play in Shreveport, La., beating nationally-ranked Trinity University in five sets, but was unable to overcome Southwestern University falling in three sets on Saturday.

The tenth-ranked Tigers beat No. 16 Trinity (11-5, 3-1 SCAC) at the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference divisional crossover, 22-25, 25-15, 21-25, 25-20, 16-14.

Colorado College was down 2-sets-to-1, but came back in the fourth set to tie the match and send the game to the tie-breaking set.

The Tigers were down the majority of the final set with Trinity seeing match point at 14-12, but CC with the help of sophomores
Abbe Holtze and Kelli Sherwood each combining for a kill tied the match at 14-14. With a ball handling error by Trinity and another kill by Sherwood, the Tigers came away with the hard fought victory. Â

CC was led offensively by Holtze with a season-high 19 kills, just one shy of tying her career high, and received 12 digs on defense. Sherwood also added 14 kills, while senior
Kristen Liberty contributed with 12.

Sarah Barker orchestrated the offense dishing out 24 and 20 assists, respectively. In the backrow, the Tigers had junior
Sophie Merrifield with a team-high 25 digs and senior
Julia Lawton serving up a team-high seven aces to tie her career high.
As a team, CC had season highs with 59 kills, 54 assists and 14 service aces to overcome Trinity.Â

In the final match of the day, Southwestern held Colorado College to its lowest hitting percentage of the season to earn a 25-21, 25-13, 25-15 victory over the Tigers.

This was the first time this season that CC was swept in three sets. The team was held to a season-low .051 attack percentage, while committing 26 errors in 157 attempts with only 34 kills, with the Pirates defense at the net forcing the Tigers to hit into 11 blocks.

Junior
Emily Phillips had a strong comeback after missing the Tigers' last 10 games, leading CC with a team-high nine kills and added 12 digs on defense. The outside hitter on the day combined for 17 kills and 18 digs over two matches.

The Tigers had three other players picking up double-figure digs against the Pirates with Lawton and Merrifield each grabbing a team-high 21 digs and Holtze with 11.

Southwestern (11-6, 4-1 SCAC) was led by Kaitlyn Foster with 11 kills and 23 digs, while Kirby Kincannon was a strong presence at the net having a hand on a team-high seven blocks for the Pirates.

Colorado College moved to 15-3 on the season and 4-1 in SCAC action. The Tigers continue conference play on Sunday against Texas Lutheran University and Schreiner University at 10 a.m. CT and 12:00 p.m. CT, respectively.
