The Colorado College women's tennis team swept all nine matches in a 9-0 victory over Colorado Christian Friday night in the Tigers' season opener in Denver, Colo.
CC jumped out to a 3-0 lead with wins at all three doubles spots.
Mary Edman and
Fiona Cerf captured the top match, 8-3, while
Natalia Dellavalle and
Gillian Hyde won the No. 3 match, 8-0. The best match was at the No. 2 position where
Maggie Harwood and Maddie Cahill won 9-8(2).
Half of the six singles matches went to a third set and CC rallied from a one-set deficit in two of them. Dellavalle downed Katy Balli, 1-6, 6-3, 1-0 at the No. 3 spot and Cahill won the No. 5 match over Ryanne Ritchey, 1-6, 6-2, 1-0. Edman won the other three-setter with a 6-2, 3-6, 1-0 triumph at the No. 2 position over Jenni Perkins.
Cerf won the No. 1 match when Paige Crews retired after the two split sets and Harwood (No. 4) and Hyde (No. 6) each won in straight sets.
The Tigers are idle until Saturday, March 7 when they play Portland State at Lifetime Fitness Center in Colorado Springs.
