Box Score 2 The 13th-ranked Colorado College volleyball team dominated on the final day of the CC Invitational on Saturday, posting a pair of sweeps en route to its second tournament championship of the season.

The Tigers won their first match of the day against Mary Hardin-Baylor, 25-16, 25-18, 25-23, with the help of tournament MVP
Courtney Birkett, who recorded her second triple-double of the year with 20 assists, 12 kills and 10 digs.

"We are really proud of our team and the way they played," said head coach
Rick Swan. "We played hard all weekend long."

The Tigers defense was led by senior
Sophie Merrifield with19 digs, while
Kaimara Herron added six blocks. Sophomore
Sarah Barker ran the offense with a team-high 23 assists.

During the second set CC was down 16-17, but a kill by junior Kelli Sherwood knotted the match. Sherwood's kill sparked an 8-0 run that included a triple-block from Herron, sophomore Abbie Holtze and freshman
Aria Dudley at 20-17. CC went on to win the set with a decisive 25-18 score.

The third set was knotted at 23-23, but a pair of kills by Birkett and Holtze gave the Tigers the sweep over the Crusaders. Holtze, who was named an all-tournament team selection, finished the match with a double-double on 12 kills and 10 digs.

"We have to keep working hard," said Swan, "but we are doing some good things we are happy with."

Colorado College had a dominating performance in the tournament finale with a 25-10, 25-21, 25-15 victory over Bluffton.

The Tigers held the Beavers to a .072 hitting percentage on 27 kills on 97 attempts with 20 errors. CC posted an impressive .376 attack percentage with 40 kills on 85 attempts with just eight errors.

Sophomore
Reagan Folaron, an all-tournament selection, led the Tigers with 14 kills, while Birkett added 19 assists, 10 kills and a career-high five blocks.

Merrifield led the defense again with 19 digs, while freshman
Myca Steffey-Bean added four blocks at the net.

Colorado College hits the road for the first time this season when it visits Marshall, Texas, to take on East Texas Baptist University on Sept. 17. The Tigers travel to Shreveport, La., to begin Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference action on Sept. 19-20. Â Â Â
