Colorado College Thumps Redlands, 19-12

Box Score Colorado College began an important three-game road trip in Southern California with a convincing 19-12 victory at the University of Redlands on Sunday afternoon.

Junior midfielder Mary Taussig led the Tigers with a season-high five goals, while sophomore attacker Annie DeFrino recorded a game-high six points on four goals and a pair of assists.

CC, which were playing on the road for the first time this season, utilized an 8-2 run to build an 11-4 lead after 30 minutes. The Tigers scored twice during the final 15 seconds, including a goal by DeFrino as time expired.

Colorado College added five of the first seven markers in the second half to extend its advantage to 16-6 on Taussig's final tally with 18:06 remaining.

The Bulldogs fought back with four in a row, including a pair of extra-player goals by Stephanie Garrett, to cut their deficit to six, but CC freshman midfielder Ellie Meyer scored the next two markers to end any thoughts of a Redlands comeback.   

Sophomore attacker Steph Kelly tied her season high with three assists and scored once for the Tigers, who improved to 4-1.

CC recorded a 34-28 advantage in total shots and won 18 of 32 draw controls. The Bulldogs posted a 27-26 edge in ground balls.

Kelly recorded a game-high 10 ground balls, while Taussig and DeFrino caused three turnovers apiece.

Senior goaltender Martha Smith made a season-high 12 saves for the Tigers, who improved to 4-1 on the season.

Garrett and freshman midfielder Hanna Morford led Redlands with three markers.

Senior Izzy Baez stopped seven shots and allowed 16 goals during 42:19 in the cage. Sophomore Quinn Egan recorded two saves and gave up three scores in relief.

The 19 goals were the most allowed by the Bulldogs this season. The previous high was during a 13-10 victory over Whittier College on Feb. 27.

Colorado College visits Chapman University in another key West Region encounter on Wednesday at 4 p.m. PT.
