Kelly, Tigers Reign at Pacific

Box Score Sophomore attacker Steph Kelly was a force all over the field as the Colorado College women's lacrosse team began its three-game Oregon road trip with a 20-9 victory at Pacific University in a steady rain at Hanson Stadium.

Kelly recorded career highs of five goals and eight points to help the Tigers reach the 20-point mark for the third time this season. She added a season-high 15 draw controls, which was greater than her pre-game average of 8.9 which ranks second nationally. 

Sophomore attacker Annie DeFrino added four goals and a pair of assists for CC, which improved to 9-2 with its fourth consecutive victory.

Colorado College took control of the game early, scoring five times during the opening five minutes.

Junior attacker Lily Benjamin, who returned to the lineup after missing the last five contests, put the Tigers on the board 53 seconds into the contest and then set up tallies by Kelly and DeFrino.

The Boxers used a 3-1 surge to pull to within three when junior attacker April Lanz scored the second her five goals 11:59 into the game, but the CC scored the next six goals to open a 12-3 lead after 30 minutes.

Colorado College scored three of the first four goals in the second half and took an 11-goal lead for the first time when DeFrino scored with 23:02 remaining.

Lanz scored three times during a 4-1 run that saw Pacific close to within 16-8, however the Tigers struck for three of the last four markers to close out the scoring.

Colorado College won 24 of 31 draw controls and finished with a 34-16 advantage in total shots.

Senior goaltender Martha Smith made a pair of saves for CC.

Junior midfielder Mary Taussig led the Tiger defense with four caused turnovers and three ground balls.

Junior goaltender Adrienne Salzwedel stopped 10 shots for Pacific, which slipped to 7-4.

Junior defender Brittney Bardin recorded a goal and two assists.

Colorado College plays at Linfield College tonight at 6 p.m.
