Box Score Sophomore outside hitter
Jordan Mullen blasted 12 kills to lead Colorado College to a decisive 25-16, 25-7, 25-16 victory over Cornell College on Friday afternoon at Reid Gymnasium.
The second-ranked Tigers, who clinched the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference regular-season crown last week, improved to 27-1. The Rams, who finished atop the Midwest Conference standings, slipped to 21-7.
Mullen reached double-digit kills for the fifth time in the last six matches and the 12th time overall. She hit .500 or better for the second time in the last six matches, finishing with only two errors on 20 attempts.
Junior right side hitter
Aria Dudley, the reigning AVCA Division III Player of the Week, hit .467 with nine kills on 15 attacks with just two errors.
Senior middle hitter
Glenna Yancey had another impressive outing, hitting .364 with six kills on 11 attempts with a pair of errors.
As a team, the Tigers hit .408.
Yancey also had a hand in six blocked shots to lead the defensive effort, while sophomore libero
Anna Gurolnick had a match-high eight digs.
CC held the Rams, who are receiving votes in the AVCA Division III Coaches Poll, to a .013 hitting percentage.
"Cornell is a very good team with some impressive wins over top-25 opponents," head coach
Rick Swan said. "We knew we had to bring our 'A' game tonight and we did.
"Everything clicked and we were very consistent throughout the match. Our kids were hungry and everyone played well."
Cornell held a 9-6 lead early in the first set and stayed even with the Tigers through 14-14. A Mullen kill put Colorado College ahead and then she seven consecutive points to give her team a commanding eight-point lead.
CC carried the momentum into the second set and utilized an 8-2 run to open a 13-5 spread. After a kill by junior middle hitter Nicole Ciari, the Tigers scored 12 of the next 13 points to close out the set.
Colorado College jumped out to an early five-point lead in the final frame, and after Cornell pulled back to with 9-7, the Tigers took control with a 7-3 surge.
The Rams got to within 18-14 on kill by senior outside hitter Libby Schooner, but CC put the match away with a 7-2 run.
Ciari and freshman middle hitter Allison Eikenberry led Cornel with six kills apiece.
Junior setter Jillian Schulte had 20 assists a team-high seven digs. Â
Colorado College plays Johnson & Wales University and Howard Payne University on Saturday at noon and 4 p.m., respectively.
