Box Score 2 Colorado College seniors
Reagan Folaron and
Glenna Yancey went out in style on Saturday afternoon as the Tigers cruised to three-set victories over Johnson & Wales University and Howard Payne University in their final regular-season matches at Reid Arena.
With a 3-0 record in the Spike It Up Classic, the second-ranked Tigers improved to 29-1 overall and finished the year with a 13-0 mark on their home court.
CC began the day with a 25-16, 25-9, 25-9 victory over Johnson & Wales.
Sophomore outside hitter
Jordan Mullen, who was voted to the all-tournament team by the opposing coaches, led Colorado College with nine kills on 16 attacks with just one error, hitting .500 for the second match in a row.
Freshman outside hitter
Allie Freeburg hit an error-free .700 with seven kills on 10 attacks, helping the Tigers hit .379 as a team. Junior right side hitter
Aria Dudley added eight kills, while Folaron finished with six.
Sophomore libero
Anna Gurolnick produced a match-high 17 digs as CC held JWU to a -.052 hitting percentage, the 14th time this season the team on the other side of the net hit below .100 and the third time an opponent finished in the red.
Senior outside hitter Erin Sosnowchik recorded seven kills for the Wildcats.
In the tournament finale, a 25-17, 25-12, 25-15 victory over Howard Payne, Yancey was virtually unstoppable. The all-tournament pick put down a match-high 10 kills on 18 attempts, hitting .556 in the process. The middle hitter also recorded a pair of solo blocks.
Folaron added seven kills, while Dudley added five. Â
Tournament MVP
Lizzy Counts dished out 26 assists while leading CC to a .302 team hitting percentage. She also had nine digs, four kills and three service aces.
Junior middle hitter Zhartezia Bradley, also all-tournament selection, led the Yellow Jackets with nine kills and a pair of blocks assists.
The all-tournament team also included Diamond Boyd (Cornell College), Nicole Ciari (Cornell College), Cheyanne Lovelady (Howard Payne University) and Ashlee Ruehs (Johnson & Wales University).
With Yancey and Folaron leading the way, CC posted a combined 122-20 record during the last four seasons, good for an .859 winning percentage. The two veterans helped the Tigers win a pair of SCAC regular-season championships and earn trips to the NCAA Tournament in each of their first three campaigns.
This year, the Colorado College set program records with an 18-match winning streak to open the season, its No. 2 ranking in the American Volleyball Coaches Association's Division III Coaches Poll and its current .967 winning percentage.
The Tigers begin postseason play on Friday, Nov. 3, against either Austin College or Texas Lutheran University in a semifinal match of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference tournament at Schreiner University in Kerrville, Texas. First serve is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. CT.
