Box Score Normally when the Colorado College women's lacrosse team racks up 18 goals, the Tigers come away with a victory.
However, St. Lawrence University struck for 21 on Thursday afternoon and the Saints marched off of Stewart Field with a 21-18 victory.
CC slipped to 8-1 with its first loss of the season. St. Lawrence improved to 2-4.
Junior attacker
Annie DeFrino's fifth tally pulled Colorado College to within 16-15 with 12:55 to play, but the Saints answered with consecutive markers to build a five-goal lead with 6:34 to go.
Freshmen
Ali Thuet and
Eva King, and sophomore
Ellie Meyer scored during a 3-1 run that pulled the Tigers to within three points with 2:45 to play, however SLU won the final draw control and killed off almost two minutes before CC regained possession.Â
Junior attacker
Steph Kelly struck for a pair of goals, including career goal No. 100 early in the second half. She also dished out a season-high seven assists to fuel the Colorado College attack.
With a game-high nine points, Kelly reached the 50 for the second year in a row and now ranks fifth in program history with 193 career points in less than three full seasons.
DeFrino led the Tigers with five goals and cracked the top 10 on the program's career list with 111.
King added a season-best four goals, Sophomore midfielder
Ellie Meyer scored twice and added a pair of assists.
CC compiled a 39-35 advantage in total shots and a 26-22 edge in ground balls. The Tigers also won 21 of 41 draw controls.
The difference in the game proved to be the Saints' goaltending tandem of senior Cricket Wemyss and sophomore Olga Lukas. Wemyss stopped six shots during the first half, while sophomore Olga Lukas made seven saves in the final 30 minutes.
St. Lawrence received five goals from junior attacker Rachel Boghosian and four from both senior midfielder Julia Mitiguy and senior attacker Kara Hurley.
First-year goalkeeper
Remy Wells stopped five shots during 39 minutes of action for Colorado College. Junior
Zoe Frolik had three saves in 21 minutes in the second half.
The Tigers play host to Hope College on Friday at 2 p.m.
