Box Score Colorado College gave No. 6 William Smith College all it could handle for 40 minutes, but the Herons scored seven of the game's last nine goals and advanced to the regional final of the 2017 NCAA Division III Women's Lacrosse Championship with an 18-13 victory on Saturday in Lexington, Va.
CC finished its season with a 15-5 ledger, which equaled the program record for wins in a single-season first set by the 2012 team that went 15-3. William Smith improved to 20-1 and extended its program-record winning streak to 17 games, which is the longest active streak in the nation.
The Tigers' 13 goals were the most allowed by the Herons since SUNY-Cortland posted a 14-6 win over William Smith on March 28, 2016.
Junior All-American
Steph Kelly recorded a game-high seven points with a pair of goals and five assists. She surpassed Mary Everett's (1996-99) school record of 252 points when she set up senior midfielder
Sadie Cole's second tally 11:49 into the contest.
Kelly completed her third season with 257 career points and extended her single-season mark to 114.
CC rallied from an 8-6 halftime deficit to knot the game at 9-9 and then 11-all with 19:51 remaining in the second half after two goals from senior midfielder
Mary Taussig and one each from Kelly, sophomore attacker
Nikki Blair and freshman attacker
Eva King.
However, William Smith scored the next five goals, including three by senior Alexandra Bird, to take a commanding 16-11 lead with just 4:55 left in the game. Taussig and King scored in the final five minutes for the Tigers.

Annie DeFrino struck for three goals to extend her Colorado College single-season record to 74. Taussig, who also had three markers, and King registered four points apiece.
Taussig backed up her All-America selection with four draw controls, three caused turnovers and a pair of ground balls.
The Herons jumped out to an early 4-0 lead during the first 5:40 of the contest, but CC stormed back with five unanswered goals, including three by DeFrino and a pair by Cole, in the next 7:15 to take a 5-4 lead with 17:05 remaining in the first half. William Smith then closed the frame with a 4-1 run to capture the 8-6 halftime lead.

William Smith outshot the Tigers, 45-26, and held a 32-23 advantage in shots on target.
Freshman goaltender
Remy Wells tied her season high with 14 saves for Colorado College.
Senior All-American Sarah Honan, who entered the game with a 4.71 goals-against average, stopped 10 shots for the Herons.
