James Settles' individual title in the 10,000-meter race helped the Colorado College men's track and field team sit in third place following the first day of the 2023 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships Saturday in Georgetown, Texas.
The Tigers, who have finished third in the last six SCAC Championships, have 50 points and trail Trinity University (142) and Texas Lutheran (115).

Settles, a junior, won his second 10K title in the last three years with a time of 32:20.95, the third-fastest ever run at the SCAC Championship Meet. 2021 10K champion
Devlin Swanson finished second to earn all-SCAC honors, while
Joe Bullock placed fifth,
Dominic Schwein sixth and
Lucaiah Smith-Miodownik eighth.

Freshmen
Rabbit Barnes (1:57.07) and
Josh Williams (21.72) finished fourth in the 800 and 200, respectively, while sophomore
Robert Gluck placed sixth in the pole vault with a height of 10'5.5".

"Our team had a great start to the championship," head coach
Katie Bretscher said. "I'm proud of the way they competed in their events."

Other scorers for CC (top 6) included freshman
Sam Singer, senior
Theo Snowdon and freshman Luc Sanots, who finished fifth, sixth and eighth, respectively, in the 3K Steeplechase.

In addition, the 4x100-meter relay team of Asher Todd-Taraday,
Holden Perry, Nathan Vincent and Liam Gunsbury placed sixth with a time of 45.12 seconds.
