Tigers sizzle at CU Invitational

Brainerd sets provisional qualifying mark in 1,500

Taking advantage of a some cooperative weather for a change, Jackson Brainerd led a host of Colorado College team members posting personal records and season bests at Saturday's CU Invitational in Boulder.

Brainerd ran the 1,500 meters in 3 minutes, 56.6 seconds to finish seventh in a field dominated by student athletes from Division I and II schools. His time also met an NCAA provisional qualifying standard, and with an altitude adjustment, almost assures him of a berth in this year's Division III championship meet.

Teammate Andrew Wagner claimed 10th place in the event, with a season-best 4:01.93.

Other CC highlights included PRs in the 3,000 meters by Dan Kraft (9:07.20), Ben Taber (9:25.31), Robby Caseria (9:25.40) and Charlie Shaw (9:30.06).

Brad Dsida led the Tigers with a 2:04.79 in the 800 meters while Kaleb Fergin (2:05.44), Ian Schiach (2:07.78), Max Gerken (2:07.84) and Daniel Alvarado (2:08.79) all registered season bests in the race.

Jordan Haber posted an 18.31 clocking in the 110-meter hurdles and sprinter Tyler Thorne completed the 100-meter dash in 11.54 seconds, both season bests.

The 4x400-meter relay team of Fergin, Wagner, Thorne and Dsida shaved nearly three seconds off the foursome's previous best, combining for a 3:33.13 effort.
