Brainerd, Dsida set records at Oxy Invitational

Jackson Brainerd and Brad Dsida set Colorado College records to highlight another impressive performance by the Tigers at the 2010 Occidental Invitational.

Brainerd shaved one second off Dan Castaneda's record in the 1,500 meters, finishing seventh in a time of 3:51.30. His effort was was just .01 seconds behind the sixth-place time and less than two seconds out of second place.

Andrew Wagner came home .73 seconds later to claim eighth place in a personal-best 3:52.03.

Dsida finished 23rd in the 800 meters in a time of 1:53.14, which was .92 seconds better than James Rankin's mark which had stood since 1990. Only two other outdoor records in running events have survived longer.

Other top performances were turned in by Max Gerken, who took 14th place in the 3,000 steeplechase with a  time of 10:04.13, and Dan Kraft who was 53rd in the 5,000 with a time of 16:03.89.

The Tigers have one more opportunity to qualify for the NCAA Division III Track and Field Championships, May 21 at North Central College's Gregory Invitational in Naperville, Ill..
