CC opens spring season with win over Cougars

The Colorado College women's tennis team opened the 2012 spring season with a 9-0 victory over Colorado Christian University Friday evening in Lakewood, Colo.
 
“This was a great way to start the spring season,” said head coach Todd Doebler. “We fought hard, won a few close matches and had fun playing as a team.”
 
The Tigers took an early 3-0 lead during doubles play when Anna Sweeney and Maggie Harwood started the night off with a strong 8-1 victory over Kaitlin Cox and Grace Christian at No. 3 doubles.

Caila Criss and Maddy Bush followed with an 8-3 victory over Chelsea Snow and Cameron Shelby at No. 2 doubles. Deanna Thirkell and Katie Patterson finished doubles action with an 8-4 win over Kara Williams and Elizabeth Vortin at the No. 1 doubles position.
 
Patterson won her match against Vortin, 6-1, 6-4 at No. 2 singles, while Criss cemented the team win with a 7-5, 6-1 triumph at the No. 3 contest.
 
Mary Edman won a close contest after dropping the second set she battled back to claim a 6-4, 2-6, 6-3 decision against Shelby at No. 4 singles.
 
Sweeney was perfect in singles play beating Cox, 6-0, 6-0 at No. 6 doubles, while Harwood earned a 6-3, 6-3 victory over Christian at No. 5 doubles.
 
Colorado College returns to action on Mar. 10 against Colorado State University - Pueblo.
