Box Score Chase Murphy tied his career high with 17 saves as Colorado College tuned up for next week's challenging three-game road trip to the East Coast with a 15-9 victory over Vassar College on Sunday at Washburn Field.
Murphy, who returned to the cage after a three-game absence, recorded double-digit saves for the second time this season and 17th time in his career.
The junior goaltender was the beneficiary of a stellar effort from CC's man-down unit, which surrendered just one goal in seven opportunities lasting a total of 5:43.
At the other end of the field, sophomore attackman
Austin Davie recorded three goals and three assists en route to a career high with six assists.
Senior midfielder
Henri Halle and sophomore attackman
Jack McCormick also struck three times as the Tigers improved to 6-1 with their sixth consecutive victory.
After trailing by as many as five goals during the first half, the Brewers pulled to within two when sophomore midfielder Liam Moriarty scored 2:09 into the second half.
Colorado College re-claimed the momentum on tallies by
Austin Davie and McCormick, and after a marker by Moriarty, took full control with a 4-0 run that began with a dart from Halle with 4.5 seconds remaining in the third quarter and ended with CC taking a 14-7 on a strike by senior midfielder
Dylan Davie with 8:56 to play.
Freshman midfielder
Jackson Kaplan continued his mastery in face-offs by winning 19 of 27. He also grabbed a game-high six ground balls, helping the Tigers compile a 33-17 advantage.
Colorado College launched 50 or more shots for the third time this season, finishing the contest with 51. Not to be outdone, Brewers took 40 shots, the most against CC in a single game this season.
Freshman goaltender Erik Mikelinish stopped 13 shots for the Brewers, who slipped to 2-2 this season. His best save occurred midway through the second quarter when he denied McCormick at the edge of the crease after a series of precision passes.
Moriarty led the Vassar offense with three tallies and an assist. Junior attackman Noah Parson and senior midfielder Scott Brekne added two goals apiece.
Colorado College plays the first of six consecutive road games on Wednesday, March 18, at Roanoke College in Salem, Va.
