Colorado College earned major recognition from the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference on Saturday, highlighted by Rayna Welsch being named SCAC First-Year Player of the Year and the Tigers' staff earning SCAC Coaching Staff of the Year honors.
Senior Kayla Mackel was selected to the All-SCAC First Team, Welsch earned Second Team honors, and senior Andie Will received Honorable Mention recognition. Welsch and Iliana Greene were also named to the SCAC All-Freshman Team.
Head coach Katherine Auguste, who is the winningest coach in program history, earned her second Coaching Staff of the Year honor, along with assistant coaches Drew Mitchell and Lisa Guhl. Under her leadership, the Tigers have now recorded three consecutive 20-win seasons — the first time the program has accomplished that feat since 1981. Colorado College also secured back-to-back SCAC division titles and now seeks its first SCAC Tournament championship and a second straight NCAA Tournament appearance.
Welsch delivered one of the more impactful freshman campaigns in recent program history. The forward averaged 12.7 points and 6.4 rebounds per game while shooting an efficient .533 from the field. She totaled 304 points and 154 rebounds, including 50 offensive boards, and started 23 of 24 games. Her First-Year Player of the Year selection comes in addition to Second Team All-SCAC honors.
Mackel earns her first career First Team All-SCAC nod and the third all-conference selection of her career. The senior led the Tigers in scoring at 15.1 points per game while shooting .427 from the field and connecting on 42 three-pointers. She totaled 318 points on the season and contributed 87 rebounds, 38 assists, 30 steals and 26 blocks, serving as a consistent two-way presence throughout the year.
Will collected her second career all-conference honor after starting all 25 games and averaging 6.5 points and 3.6 rebounds per contest. She added 69 assists and a team-high 43 steals, anchoring the Tigers' perimeter defense and facilitating the offense during conference play.
Greene was named to the SCAC All-Freshman Team after appearing in 23 games and averaging 4.4 points per contest while shooting .390 from three-point range, providing depth and versatility off the bench.
